Frederiksted, St. Croix [Travel Photography]

The last of the honeymoon pics. These are from Frederiksted, the other town on the island. Frederiksted is where the cruise ships come in. As one local put it, Frederiksted looks like Somalia. It is pretty beat up. There are a few buildings that have been / in the process of being renovated, but most of it is shuttered and dilapidated. Bummer because the beaches there are breathtaking. You drove up onto the sand dunes and parked beneath the Sea Grapes. This is also where our Jeep got “broken” into. They stole 3 quarters that was in the center console and broke open the glove compartment which we didn’t even know was locked. They left the pennies, our clothes, and two sets of keys to the Jeep (one we forgot and I ran back to the Jeep to retrieve and the other was locked in the glove box.) Not sure to call the thievery laziness or modesty. At least we got the full treatment on the island!

The Biltmore [Travel Photography]

V & I spent the first 4 days of our honeymoon at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Florida. Growing up in Miami, the Biltmore has always epitomized old school luxury and glamor. The pink tower can be seen for miles in South Dade since it is the only tall structure around it. I’ve been able to see bits and glimpses of it growing up.  Fourth of July, they used to do fireworks on the lawn and my parents would set up shop with lawn chairs and coolers. The warehouse space out back got rented to a movie I worked on once. The finches in the lobby and the statues by the pool always called to me whenever I dropped something off for a guest there. Finally, it was my turn. I got to be a guest. On my honeymoon no less. I was over the moon. We stayed on the 10th floor, centered over the courtyard. We had a balcony with french doors that opened to hear the classical guitar dance up to us on the cool breezes. It was amazing. Food was fantastic. Everyone was so nice. And I finally got a chance to swim in that pool!
