About Me

Jacqueline Stetson

Hello! I’m Jacqueline. First, I’d like to say thank you for checking out my photography work and being interested enough to learn a little bit about me. I hope to not be too boring or long-winded but give you enough of an idea about how I work a wedding. If I haven’t answered your question, send me an email or give me a ring. By the way, this is me. I just got married in November 2010. My company did a photo wall for the guests and this was the first sample shot. It is one of my favorite pictures of me at the wedding. Thanks so much!

My Style

So without further ado, some things in particular about my style:

  • Style. My photography style is a cross between artistic and documentary. My background is in story-telling (writing, film, design) so I like to capture all the little details and moments that are part of your big day.
  • Follow the bride. I primarily follow the bride throughout the day. You and your groom are what the day is celebrating. Whether it is getting ready, that moment right before you walk down the aisle with your dad, the first kiss, the first real kiss after you walked back down the aisle with your new husband, showing your ring off to your friends, thanking your guests for coming, or dancing with your niece. I’ll be there.
  • Guests. I try to take at least one photo of every single guest at the wedding. This is really important and not a lot of photographers talk about this. Your guests went out of their way to be there for you and be part of your day. I want to make sure that I take their picture.
  • VIPs. I also like to focus pictures on your VIPs. For me, they often tell the story best. Your brother getting teary-eyed as he looks at you at the hotel before you get in the car. Your mom watching you and your dad dance. The groom’s dad shaking his son’s hand. Your great-gramma in her wheelchair watching the toddlers on the dance floor. Those are the moments I keep an eye out for.
  • Formals. I like to get through formals fast so we can take some bride & groom portraits. Formals are important. They are part of that “documenting your day”. They show what you looked like, what everyone wore. They can also make the brides cheeks hurt from smiling for 30 minutes straight and her head hurt from trying to wrangle everyone. Prep is key. Your Maid of Honor and Best Man should have a list beforehand and have everyone ready so we can cycle through these. I like to do two full-length shots and two close-up shots per group. I take multiple shots because in large groups, someone is always blinking and I can swap faces in PhotoShop later. That way we get the best picture of each person (even if it took 4 different pictures to get there!)
  • Eating. I don’t shoot when people are eating. Typically that is when I try to eat also. If the meal takes a long time, I will then take pictures of your rings, the cake, the guest book, all those little details that you have thought so hard about.
  • Dancing. I love taking pictures of dancing, DJs, bands. It is really hard to take a good picture at night with little light and lots of movement. This is where the artistic pictures really come out sometimes. In photo-speak, I drag the shutter and pop a flash with a rear-curtain sync. In human words, you can see movement in the photos and they have a different feel than the point-and-shoot cameras with a flash that lights up everything.
  • Second Shooter. I recommend asking for a second photographer. Second shooters are great to make sure you get the coverage that you want for your wedding. When I work with a second, we each have 2 cameras, each with a different type of lens. That means you get 4 different looks / angles throughout your wedding.
  • Guest pictures. Sometimes I turn into the second shooter. Whenever I see your guests gathering for a photo taken by another one of your guests, or I see camera flashes going off, I always try to get that shot too. Usually something fun is happening. And that is part of my job – to document your day.
  • Photo Walls. My background is as a producer for print campaigns, music videos, and commercials. I was also trained as a fashion photographer. I love taking formal portraits with studio lights. I have a setup where I build a portable studio on-location so we can shoot portraits of your guests looking their best. I have a big box of silly props too (feather boas, king and queen crowns, gangster fedoras, big gold picture frames, chalk boards, etc). It’s a cross between photobooths and red carpets. It’s like a photobooth where your guests can be silly or have family portraits, but it’s like a red carpet where the lighting is great and you have a professional photographer with a great camera taking the photo and making them look their best. Even if you hire another photographer to shoot your wedding, consider adding a photo wall from me as your guest gift! You get the DVD of all images and can include prints in your thank you cards!
